Pet Ambassador Requirements

While many of us think of dogs when he hear Therapy Animal, there are many different kids of animals that can bring joy and comfort to those in need!
WAGS offers certifications to Ambassador Teams that include:

  • Dogs
  • Cats
  • Birds
  • Rabbits
  • Guinea Pigs
  • Domesticated Rats

While we love all animals, not every animal can be a WAGS Ambassador. To be considered for certification, animals must meet the requirements as outlined below. Not all species have the same requirements. Please read carefully and feel free to contact us with any questions.

Dogs and Cats
  • Must be at least 18 months old at the time of evaluation.
  • Must have lived in the owner’s home for at least 6 months prior to evaluation.
  • A dog that has been trained to aggressively protect and/or encouraged to actively bite, even as a component of a dog sport (such as bite work that is part of Schutzhund) is not eligible to be a WAGS Ambassador.
Pocket Pets
Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, and Domesticated Rats
  • Must be at least 6 months of old at the time of evaluation.
  • Must have lived in the owner’s home for at least 6 months prior to evaluation.
Birds
  • Must be at least 18 months old at the time of evaluation.
  • Must have lived in the owner’s home for at least 1 year prior to evaluation.
